Rail Ops Subdivisions

Gaming

Something new is taking shape. A project I have been working on for a while is finally coming to fruition.

Rail Ops: Subdivisions is being designed around more than simply driving a train. Players will be able to select subdivisions from around North America, load them and play them on their own computer. The terrain is generated from real-world elevation data. The players will build their own track networks across the landscape, based on real rail right-of-ways.

While the player may only play a handful of subdivisions at a time, the whole network is interconnected, so that a boxcar on your subdivision will receive a waybill to load freight at an industry, then be routed through the whole network of connected North American subdivisions to eventually find it's way to it's destination. The industy will be modeled on real world industry, materials and scale.

I worked on a text and map based project which did this a few years ago, and it was successful at handling this. Now, I wanted to make it a real playable game. So here we are. Stay tuned to https://dev.railops.us/railops2/ for more information as development progresses.

Until then I will keep rolling down the rails of development. Note, all images are very pre-alpha still. Trees, auto generated urban areas, and auto generated water are yet to come, along with models of every AAR freight car in popular use, and locomotives - tho I do need some help with those models... But yeah I am excited for sure.
